I completed this trail on my jeep rubicon 35 inch tires 5 inch lift 4x4 with no issues.Very cool trail that takes you down to the lake and one of the coves some very rocky areas very sandy areas the smoothest part of the trails are the lower parts and up on the ridge it’s much rougher You got to have a vehicle with some clearance four-wheel-drive is not a bad idea but I do see 2 Wheel Drive vehicles pick up trucks and such out thereawesome jeep trail, def need good clearance to complete. I love taking the family there that way we can enjoy some time splashing in saguaro lake. The Butcher Jones Trail is not the kind of hike where you will exert a great deal of effort to climb to a mountain summit or where you will see unique cultural sites or endemic species. Take Bush Highway south to the Butcher Jones Beach Rd, make a left and take it to the beach. Mostly easy (but we had a ZJ w/6" lift & 35s), with a few alternate hard lines here and there. The narrow trail slowly winds its way along the edge of the lake, taking you in and out of many small coves. Back on the published trail, there are not too many challenging obstacles that 4WD cannot overcome. The road there was closed.

These coves are popular places for fishing. Those hills on the off shoots are much steeper and rutted to climb. With minimal elevation gain and beautiful views, it can't be beat!Overall, Butcher Jones Trail is a fantastic hike as there is something for everyone to enjoy.

As long as you don't harass them you should be just fine. If you’re into this sort of thing and are well equipped, you’ll find Butcher Jones Offroad Trailhead on the north side of the parking lot. Couple places to stop on the way to fish and at the trails endOn the way back keep on eye peeled for the wildlife that inhabits the area. Nice views of the lake too!
