© 2020 JPIMedia Publications Ltd.The annual event at Stonehenge in Wiltshire typically attracts thousands of people to the ancient site, to commemorate the beginning of summer from sunset on 20 June until sunset the following day.“We realise that people are disappointed they can’t come to Stonehenge at this special time but hope it will be a really wonderful way for them to still connect with the site.”People can take part in activities such as making a model of the stone circle out of Custard Creams or loo rolls to gather around, or suggesting hashtags to assist solstice enthusiasts connect online.This year was due to be the 20th anniversary of the peaceful midsummer gathering, which will now be streamed online and via social media – just tune into English Heritage’ Facebook page.Alongside English Heritage’s efforts, a virtual Stonehenge festival has been set up.There will be no access to Stonehenge for summer solstice due to measures in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus, so solstice fans should not travel to the site.Streaming will start from 04.30 BST (03.30 GMT) so the sunrise at 04.55 BST (03.55 GMT) can be captured.Nichola Tasker, English Heritage’s Stonehenge director, said: “We really hope that people will celebrate this midsummer day at home. We've gathered together advice from our team of teachers and education experts on how to approach home learning during the crisis.
