Bought a new laptop today and have been trying to switch out of S mode (because it's an absolute joke) and I am being prompted with "Something went wrong and we couldn't start the upgrade". Hi Question Solvers at Microsoft.I recently brought home a Windows 10 Pro ASUS Laptop with the such thing called 'S mode' on it.As I want to use some Microsoft apps. Windows 10 S won't let me install Firefox Windows 10 in S mode does not allow the installation of Firefox or other apps from outside of the Microsoft Store. Great! If you purchased a Surface Go this week, you’ve likely been trapped in S Mode. If you make the switch, you won't be able to go back to Windows 10 in S mode. In Microsoft Store Get the switch out of S mode and then Install… Sorry this didn't help. I used the method the store told me to use to get out of S Mode.So I went to Settings, Update & Security, Activation and tried to switch it off.It keeps giving me this message. Great!
In Microsoft Store Get the switch out of S mode and then Install.....it worked for me! In the Switch to Windows 10 Home or Switch to Windows 10 Pro section, select Go to the Store. Sorry this didn't help. Here is the quick, relatively pain-free way to switch Windows 10 Home in S Mode to Windows 10 Home. Great! Windows 10’s S Mode won’t let you install software from outside the Store or even change Edge’s default search engine. Windows 10 S Mode is a restricted version of the operating system that should be easy to switch out of – but some people claim they are stuck. Sorry this didn't help. If I were buying a new PC, then I would check to see if W10 is in S mode and it would be disabled, in the store, or the PC would stay in the store.
